Celebrating the return of one of the Bay Area’s Funniest and Furriest contest, the Tenth Annual Bay Area Cub Contest is going to be a crowd pleasure.
Date: Saturday, July 4, 2009
Time: 3:00pm – 7:00pm
Location: Lone Star Saloon, San Francisco, CA
The contest, which falls on our Nation’s Independence Day, will benefit two San Francisco Veterans Organizations; The San Francisco Veterans Speakers Alliance and the Bob Basker Post 315 of the American Legion. The San Francisco Veterans Speakers Alliance (SFVSA) is a group of American Veterans who proudly speak out against US Military policies that are oppressive including but not limited to: “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” The SFDVA visits local Bay Area High Schools to educate the youth about the true consciouses of joining the Military. The Bob Basker Post 315 is the only Post within the American Legion to be named after an openly gay WWII combat Army Veteran. This month Post 315 received the Blue Honor Ribbon for achieving 100% membership goals for 2009, within the American Legion. Both organizations welcome any and all LGBT Veterans to join them. Due to the recent recession, both organizations are now sharing a room within the SF Veterans Building. For more information about either organization, call 415-255-7331.
Created as the companion contest to the San Francisco Bear Contest, the Bay Area Cub Contest has traditionally been a fun-filled afternoon with the Bears of the Bay Area. Many Bay Area Cubs have gone on to win other titles and have offered countless hours of service to many Bay Area non-profits and community service organizations. Contestant applications are available at the Lone Star Saloon. Both the Bay Area Cub Contest and Mr. SF Bear Contest are produced by Mr. John Caldera. A long time resident of San Francisco, Mr. Caldera was the first International Mr. Bear back in 1992 and was one of last year’s only openly gay Olympic Torchbearers when Olympic Torch came to San Francisco.
