A brief run down on how the elections work: Instead of running for a particular position, you run for the board, those with the top nine highest votes become the new board. Then during the meeting following the announcement, the new board members discuss which position they are interested in and then nominations are done and we vote, and positions are filled, then we set up individual meetings for a transition time between the outgoing board and the newly elected board. To help you in deciding if you would like to be a candidate for this year’s election, here is a brief description of the General Board member responsibilities, and specific Board Chair duties. If you have talents in these areas, we would especially like you to consider applying as a candidate:

To qualify to run as a candidate you must be a member in good standing as of March 2, 2012, meaning you membership is current and active.

The Bears of San Francisco Board of Directors general responsibilities are:
- Attend the monthly Board meetings, which are the first Tuesday of each month.
- Attend and assist at our monthly beverage benefits, held at local bars.

It is recommended that each Board member live in or near the city of San Francisco, as we do have impromptu meetings and responsibilities from time to time. There is no financial compensation for these volunteer positions.

The positions, responsibilities, and qualifications of the NINE (9) Board positions are:

1- President: (Key Position) This person is the chief executive officer of the corporation. Duties include management and supervision of the Board operation, communication, and public relations liaison on an internal/external level.
Prerequisite: 2+ years on the BOSF Board
Skill set: Management, administration, communications, public relations, diplomacy, and logistics.

2- Vice President: (Key Position) This person required to perform any normal duties when the President is absent or requires such delegation. This person is generally expected to learn the duties and skills of the position of President for possible future advancement to that elected position.
Prerequisite: 1+ year(s) on the BOSF Board, or unanimous approval from the Board.
Skill set: same as President

3- Treasurer: (Key Position) This person is in charge and responsible for all funds and securities of the corporation, as well as facilitating deposits and payments for such.
Prerequisite: General knowledge of bookkeeping skills, and previous work or volunteerism in this area would be beneficial.
Yearly BOSF involvement: 50+ hours
Skill set: Knowledge of accounting procedures, and financial management.

4- Secretary: (Key Position) This person is the custodian of records, meeting minutes, the Board seal, and other documents. The Secretary handles and responds/forwards all legal and general correspondence, as well as any roster and newsletter mailings.
Prerequisite: General knowledge of secretarial duties, and previous work or volunteerism in this area would be beneficial.
Skill set: Knowledge of correspondence and mail procedures, email, and note taking and general computer skills needed.

5-Activities Coordinator: This person is responsible for researching, selecting, reserving, and coordinating all activities of the club on a proactive basis. Ability to post regular activity notices to the membership and mailing list via email required.
Prerequisite: ability to research and schedule activity events.
Skill set: activity planning, computer and email skills.

6-Publications Coordinator: This person is responsible for production and printing of all publications for the club (newsletters, rosters, palm-cards, posters, etc.). Knowledge of web programming (HTML, php, etc.) recommended for assistance with website.
Prerequisite: ability to produce above publications
Skill set: Publication and imaging software, as well as printing knowledge skills are helpful. Having built or maintained a website is
also helpful.

7-Beneficiary Coordinator: This person is responsible for prospecting and researching new and existing 501(c)3 non-profit corporations for
grant consideration at our monthly beverage benefits. Also retains Beneficiary pool records.
Prerequisite: ability to research and gather information from prospective beneficiaries, and past work or volunteer experience is helpful.
Skill set: Information management, communication skills.

8-Quartermaster: This person is responsible for maintaining the corporation’s general property and supplies, and assists in retrieving them/returning them to our storage facility during our beverage benefits, street fairs, and as needed.
Prerequisite: Knowledge and ability to perform above duties plus transportation vehicle preferred or have valid driver’s license.
Skill set: transportation, communication.

9-Member-at-Large: This person is needed to fill in and assist other board positions as needed.

(Key Positions) are Noted as they are the positions that make the “Executive Committee” for the Bears of San Francisco.

FRIDAY: Bear Albany Meet & Greet (9pm – 3am)

Your weekend party starts Friday May 25, 9pm at WaterWorks Pub (76 Central Ave) for our traditional Meat & Greet after everyone gets into town. After the Friday night Meat & Greet, head across the street to ROCKS to see the infamous Kendall perform live! Kendall Kelly is a singer/songwriter/artist from Buffalo NY who is well known for his music videos like the award winning Hip Hop Dykes (best short at the Rochester Gay and Lesbian Film Festival) and Bears which was shown by MTV Neworks gay television station LOGO and on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. SATURDAY: Relax at the Pool (after lunch)

SATURDAY: PROM NIGHT (9pm onward)

Saturday evening from 9:00pm onward, join the gang at ROCKS Bar (77 Central Ave) for PROM NIGHT and dance the night away with your friends and hopefully with someone special. Come wearing a tux, come wearing a T-shirt, or come shirtless with a bow tie, because how you look is entirely up to you. There’ll be fantastic fast and slow dance songs all night long, great drink specials, and pizza around midnight. Entry is a $5 donation before 10pm, $7 afterward with proceeds benefiting the C4 AIDS Ward in Albany Medial Center. Late in the evening we’ll be crowning the first Bear Albany Prom Kings (or Queens) who’ll win prizes along with the prestige of being our first Bear Prom royalty. It’s official, we’re doing Brunch at Cafe 217 once again! But this instead of doing the buffet, we’ll get to order off their delicious Main Menu. PLUS all of you will get a 20% discount just by telling the waitress you’re with Bear Albany group! To accommodate everyone’s busy schedules, Brunch will be anytime between 9am and 1pm. So if you have plans or are in a rush to eat, be sure to get there as early as possible so they can accommodate you. The restaurant will close at 2pm due to the holiday weekend. Because it’s Memorial Day weekend, be sure to tell them that you’re part of Bear Albany when you arrive so that they can put you in the private room. Oregon Bears presents

The current year is the end of the Mayan calendar, and some say the end of civilization itself. What better way to celebrate the occasion than to spend a beautiful summer weekend in Portland with the friendliest bears on Earth?

Join us for BearTown 17: Bearpocalypse! We have more parties, more men, and more activities to choose from. Your weekend package includes more activities and entitles you to more privileges and discounts. It’s all bigger and better than ever. But we are still limiting numbers so that we maintain the warm and friendly atmosphere the Oregon Bears are so famous for.

Participants of last year’s BearTown 16: Bears in Bridgetown participated in a survey of what they liked the most and provided valuable feedback for this year’s planning committee. We took the suggestions seriously and have organized an amazing weekend.

Some of the favorite events of past years are returning (Cheers, Cheese & Chocolates; Shed the Shirt T-Shirt Exchange). Some events have new venues (Bears at the Baths moves to Hawks, Portland’s new bathhouse; the UnderBear Dance moves to a new venue that’s more private). New activities include a tour of local distilleries, a walk across the river to Portland’s Saturday Market with its arts and crafts and great food, and an exotic and erotic after-hours Mayan-themed party where a virgin may be sacrificed. (Wish us luck finding a bear who’s a virgin, right?)

About This Year’s Charity

The BearTown 17 Committee has chosen the Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition (OregonSafeSchools.org) as its charity this year. Anyone who remembers the difficulty of being young and gay, confused and isolated, often depressed or bullied, knows what an important role SMYRC plays in our community.

Last year’s charity was the Sexual and Gender Minority Youth Resource Center (SMYRC) in Portland. In the past, we have raised funds for the Q Center, Our House, Esther’s Pantry, and several other organizations.

The Exclusive Theme Park Party Weekend for Bears, Cubs, Chubs and Admirers only at Wet ‘n Wild – Orlando!  This year’s Tidal Wave Party will be held Friday, June 1, from 6pm to midnight.

2012 Tidal Wave Weekend!

What started out as the exclusive evening-hour theme park party for Bears, Cubs, Chubs and Admirers at Wet ‘n Wild has now become Tidal Wave Party Weekend!  The weekend-long event is now centered around the beautiful Royal Plaza, the official host hotel of the Tidal Wave Party Weekend.  The Royal Plaza, an official Downtown Disney Resort area hotel, is at the heart of the magic as all four Disney World theme parks and Downtown Disney are easily accessed by complimentary shuttles and Downtown Disney restaurants and attractions are also just a short walk away.

We have secured the entire 394-room hotel exclusively for Tidal Wave Party Weekend guests on Friday and Saturday nights!  This year’s Tidal Wave Party, the cornerstone bear event of the weekend, will be held Friday, June 1, 2012, from 6pm to midnight with complimentary shuttles to and from the Royal Plaza.  The park will be closed to the public during our private party, but any ticket purchased for the Tidal Wave Party will be good for admission to Wet ‘n Wild the entire day.
